Ministers of the Liturgy
Ministers
of the Liturgy include all Altar Servers, Lectors, Sacristans and
Eucharistic Ministers. They may be called on for Holy Day Masses and
other liturgical celebrations, as well as weddings and funerals. Anyone
who is a confirmed Catholic, regularly attends St. Dominic, and meets
the specific requirements of each ministry may participate. An Altar
Server or Lector must have received First Communion and know the
principal prayers of the Mass. An Altar Server must also be tall enough
to safely manage lit candles. Altar service is a wonderful way for
youth to become involved in the Mass. Both youth and adult Lectors read
the First and Second Readings during the Mass, and may also read or
sing the Responsorial Psalm. Ability to read aloud in a clear manner is
the only requirement. A Sacristan prepares the altar for liturgical
celebrations and is charged with the care of the church, the sacristy
and their contents. Anyone who is a Confirmed Catholic may be a
Sacristan. Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest with the distribution
of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Any confirmed Catholic age 16
or older may participate. An initial training session is required for
all Ministers of the Liturgy.
